It began with me leaving Brad all on his own as I went to get Lauren to position her for the first look. There is always a sort of edge in the air to a first look. It’s exciting. Nerves are a bit on edge. But that all goes away the minute I can get the bride and groom together. We had to wait a bit longer than usual before I could take Lauren to Brad, and I think I aged Brad about 5 years during that wait. Once together, we had only a few minutes to shoot before they had to go in to the Calgary Temple for their ceremony. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it many more times. First looks are my favorite because they give a couple time together, time before the ceremony to just be with each other. It’s, from what I can usually see, the only moment in the entire day that the couple is so focused on each other that they forget who else is around them, what is happening around them, and they just hold onto each other and be in the moment. Even if it’s only about 3 minutes. It’s my favorite 3 minutes, every time.
A Calgary wedding day in April can leave you open to any kind of weather. Brad and Lauren had one very cold day in their day, so we got together later on when we had more time and more movement in our hands since the wind chill was so cold it made staying outside for portraits really tough to do. Even with the cold wind though, this wedding was a party from beginning til end which included the bridal party creating their own dance routine for the wedding reception. Cant wait to see the video for that!
